The Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency (MGCA) participated in the Green Futures: Systemic Solutions for Green Growth and Decent Work in Africa event, which took place from September 2 to 4, 2025, in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique.
This event focused on sustainable enterprises as a key strategy for addressing environmental issues and climate change. It brought together change-makers from across Africa to explore how businesses can lead the way in creating a greener and more equitable future. Over three days, the event examined systemic approaches for sustainable enterprises and their contributions to a Just Transition, aligning climate resilience with inclusive economic growth and decent work.
Our Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Nkosinathi Nkonyane, attended the event to showcase the initiatives of MGCA in the green economy and highlight the innovative solutions developed by enterprises participating in our annual Mpumalanga Green Innovation Challenge.
On Day 1, the focus was on setting the stage, with the following key topics highlighted:
– Exploring the intersection of green enterprise transitions and employment
– Understanding how market systems can drive sustainable change and create jobs
– Identifying opportunities for climate-smart enterprise growth
– Discovering the challenges and opportunities faced by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) during the shift to a green economy
– Examining how market systems development can promote sustainable and climate-resilient markets, as well as their limitations
Day 2 centred on moving from ideas to action, with key discussions including:
– Discovering cutting-edge solutions and real-world innovations
– Focusing on adaptation in fragile and climate-vulnerable contexts and its connection to market systems development
– Co-designing interventions through the Adapt-Mitigate-Thrive framework
Day 3 aimed to mobilise momentum, with highlights including:
– Shaping a collective call to action
– Forging partnerships for long-term impact
– Committing to scalable and inclusive solutions.
Our participation in this event goes a long way to reiterate our commitment to unearthing and giving sustainable enterprises the support to continue scaling up their innovative solutions by assisting in obtaining the support they require by matching them with companies that can fund or lend a helping hand in purchasing equipment as it happened in our Green Innovation Challenge this year with the help of our sponsors and partners.
