JTCC Secretariat Announcement

Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency Appointed as Secretariat for the Just Transition and Climate Change Steering Committee

In line with the Climate Change Act, 2024 (Act No. 15 of 2024), provinces are required to establish political and technical coordinating structures for the Just Transition. In response, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, through the Office of the Director-General in the Office of the Premier, has formed the Just Transition and Climate Change Steering Committee (JTCC), appointing the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency (MGCA) as its Secretariat.

MGCA: Coordinating the Just Transition in Mpumalanga

As the central coordinating body, MGCA ensures a well-structured, inclusive, and sustainable transition to a low-carbon economy. It aligns all Just Transition (JT) initiatives, fosters stakeholder collaboration, and provides policy support to mitigate socio-economic impacts.

Mandatory Registration of Just Transition Projects

To enhance coordination and prevent duplication, all Just Transition projects in Mpumalanga must be registered with MGCA. This ensures alignment with the province’s transition goals, maximizes synergies, and drives economic diversification.

Key Responsibilities of MGCA as Secretariat

  • Strategic Coordination: Overseeing the implementation of JT initiatives in line with provincial and national policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitating partnerships across government, private sector, civil society, and international organizations.
  • Policy and Research Support: Providing data-driven insights and policy recommendations.
  • Capacity Building: Supporting skills development and knowledge sharing to empower communities and businesses.

A Just and Equitable Transition

MGCA prioritizes workers, communities, and local enterprises affected by the energy transition, ensuring green job creation and sustainable economic opportunities.

Call for Registration and Collaboration

All organizations implementing JT projects in Mpumalanga must register their initiatives with MGCA to ensure effective coordination. Stakeholders—including government, businesses, NGOs, and research institutions—are invited to collaborate in shaping a resilient and sustainable Mpumalanga.
